"We touch things to assure ourselves of reality. We touch the objects of our love. We touch the things we form. Our tactile experiences are elemental. If we reduce their range, as we do when we reduce the necessity to form things ourselves, we grow lopsided." — Anni Albers

Ghetto Hikes

newwavefeminism:

@deepinsweetwater just sent me a message telling me about this blog, with a twitter account that has over 300,000 followers. Whats the blog about? here’s a description

I’m 28. I have a full time job leading urban kids on nature hikes. I simply write down shit they say.

I feel the same way about this blog as I did about that “texts from bennett” nonsense. America gets its jollies laughing at and mocking “ghetto” youth. I’m glad this full time teacher (if he actually even is a real teacher) puts the words of his students on his blog for all of his followers to laugh at. As if people already don’t exploit poor kids of color enough.

Real classy. I love covert racism.

One reason why I dislike the word ‘ghetto’. The amount of classism and covert racism behind it is absolutely absurd.
